Day 3: Parts of a Plant 🌻

🎯 1. Concept: Every Part has a Job

Just like your body has hands to pick up things and legs to walk, a plant has different parts that do special work to keep it alive.

The Main Jobs:
  • Roots: These stay under the ground. They drink water from the soil and hold the plant firmly so it doesn’t fall over.
  • Stem: This is like a straw! It carries water from the roots up to the leaves and helps the plant stand tall.
  • Leaves: These are the “Chef” of the plant. They use sunlight to make food.

💡 2. The Plant “Chef” Trick

How do plants eat? They don’t have mouths! Instead, their Leaves catch sunlight like a solar panel to cook their own food.

*The roots “drink,” the stem “carries,” and the leaves “cook”!

🌍 3. Science in Our Daily Life

Example: Have you ever seen a flower in a vase? If the water runs out, the flower wilts. This is because the Stem has no water to “drink” and carry up to the petals!

📝 4. Home Task: The Rainbow Celery

Observe how the stem works like a straw!

  • Put a stalk of celery in a glass of water.
  • Add 5 drops of red or blue food coloring to the water.
  • Wait for one day.
  • Observation: You will see the color moving up the Stem and into the leaves!

✅ 5. Day 3 Practice Test

Are you a Plant Expert? Answer these 10 questions to find out!

Easy
1. Which part of the plant “drinks” water from the soil?
Solution: Roots stay underground to drink water.
Easy
2. The Stem works just like a ________.
Solution: The stem carries water up to the rest of the plant.
Easy
3. Which part makes food using sunlight?
Solution: Leaves are the “Chef” of the plant!
Easy
4. Roots help the plant stand tall by ________ it in the ground.
Solution: Roots hold the plant firmly in the soil.
Medium
5. Where does the water go after the Roots drink it?
Solution: The Stem carries the water from the roots to the leaves.
Medium
6. True or False: Leaves need sunlight to make food.
Solution: Leaves catch sunlight like solar panels to “cook”.
Medium
7. In the Rainbow Celery experiment, why do the leaves change color?
Solution: The colored water traveled through the “straw” (stem).
Medium
8. Which part is usually found UNDER the ground?
Solution: Roots grow downwards into the soil.
Hard
9. What would happen if a plant’s Stem was broken?
Solution: If the “straw” is broken, water cannot move up.
Hard
10. Why are Leaves often green?
Solution: They use special “green” magic to catch the sun’s energy!
