Day 06: Our Five Senses – How we explore the world

Foundation Stage Science | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences

Level 1: The Quest (Concept) 🚀

Welcome, Little Explorers! Did you know you are like a super-powered robot with Sensors? Our five senses are special tools our body uses to gather information about everything around us!

Sense Organ Job
Sight 👀 Eyes Colors, Shapes, Sizes
Hearing 👂 Ears Loud or Soft sounds
Smell 👃 Nose Sweet or Stinky scents
Taste 👅 Tongue Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter
Touch ✋ Skin Hot, Cold, Rough, Smooth

Level 2: Power-Ups (Tools/Methods) ⚡

The Brain Connection: All our senses send signals to our 🧠 Brain. The brain acts like a translator, telling us “That’s a red apple!” or “Watch out, that’s hot!”

Science Math: Total Senses = \( 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5 \)

Memory Trick: Remember “S.H.S.T.T”: Sight, Hearing, Smell, Taste, Touch!

Level 3: Mini-Boss Battles (Daily Life) ⚔️

Scenario 1: Crossing the Road

You use your Eyes to see the traffic light and your Ears to hear the car horns. Together, they keep you safe!

Scenario 2: Eating a Pizza

You use Smell to enjoy the aroma, Sight to see the cheese, Touch to feel the warmth, and Taste to enjoy the yummy flavor!

Level 4: Home Quests (Tasks) 🏡

Quest 1: The Mystery Bag

Ask a parent to put 5 different objects in a bag. Without looking, use only your Sense of Touch to guess what they are!

Quest 2: Flavor Detective

Close your eyes and taste a small piece of fruit. Can you tell what it is using only Taste and Smell? Draw the fruit in your notebook!

Final Boss: Practice Test 🏆

1. Which organ do we use to see the beautiful rainbow? EASY

Magic Solution: Our eyes are like cameras that capture light and color!

2. We use our skin for the sense of: EASY

Magic Solution: Skin covers our whole body and helps us feel textures and temperature.

3. Which sense helps us know if a bell is ringing? EASY

Magic Solution: Sound waves travel into our ears so we can hear the ringing!

4. I can tell an onion is being cut in the kitchen because of my sense of: EASY

Magic Solution: Tiny smell particles travel through the air to our nose.

5. Lemon tastes sour. Which organ told you this? MODERATE

Magic Solution: The tongue has taste buds that detect sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.

6. If you are blindfolded, which sense can you NOT use? MODERATE

Magic Solution: Blindfolds block light from reaching your eyes, stopping the sense of sight.

7. You touch a cup of tea and pull your hand back. Why? MODERATE

Magic Solution: Your sense of touch warned your brain that the cup was too hot!

8. Which of these is a “texture” we can feel? MODERATE

Magic Solution: Rough, smooth, soft, and hard are all things we feel with our skin.

9. How many senses do we use when eating an apple to know it is red, crunchy, and sweet? COMPLEX

Magic Solution: Red (Sight), Crunchy (Hearing/Touch), Sweet (Taste). That’s 3!

10. If the Brain is the “Computer,” the Five Senses are the: COMPLEX

Magic Solution: Just like a keyboard sends info to a PC, senses send info to the brain!
