Day 10: The Sun and Shadows
Foundation Stage (Grades 1–2) Science | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences
Welcome, Little Scientists! Today we are exploring the magic of the Sun and how it creates Shadows. Did you know that shadows change their size all day long?
Look at this!
☀️ ➔ 🏃 ➔ 👤
When the Sun’s light hits you, your body blocks the light, and a dark shape called a Shadow appears on the ground!
- Morning/Evening: Sun is low = Long shadows.
- Noon (12 PM): Sun is high above = Short shadows.
| Time of Day | Sun Position | Shadow Size |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Low (East) | Long 📏 |
| Noon | High (Above) | Short 🤏 |
Timmy went to play at 8:00 AM. He saw his shadow was very tall! Why?
Answer: Because the Sun was low in the sky!
Long ago, people didn’t have watches. They looked at the position of a shadow on a stick to tell if it was lunch time!
Use a flashlight or the Sun to make animal shapes with your hands on a wall. Can you make a bird or a dog?
Find a tree or a pole outside. Draw its shadow in the morning and again at noon. Notice how the length changes!
