Day 8: Tens and Ones! 🧱
Foundation Stage Mathematics | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences
🎯 1. Concept: The Magic of Number Grouping
Welcome to Week 2! Today, we are learning a secret math code called Place Value.
When we have a lot of things to count, counting them one by one takes too much time! Instead, we group them into Tens to make it much faster and easier.
💡 2. The Rule of 10
Every time you get 10 loose items, you bundle them together!
- Tens: These are your bundles or groups of exactly 10.
- Ones: These are the leftovers that aren’t enough to make a full ten.
Example: The number 24 means you have 2 Tens (which is 20) and 4 Ones (which is 4).
🌍 3. Math in Our Daily Life
We see Tens and Ones everywhere!
Scenario 1: Pencil Bundles: Imagine you have 35 pencils. Instead of counting all 35, you put rubber bands around groups of 10. You will easily see 3 bundles (Tens) and 5 loose pencils (Ones).
Scenario 2: The Piggy Bank: You open your piggy bank and find exactly 42 rupees. You notice you have four ₹10 coins (Tens) and two ₹1 coins (Ones).
📝 4. Home Practice (Fun Tasks)
Parents, please guide your child with these hands-on counting tasks!
- Task A: The Bean Counter: Grab a handful of dry beans, macaroni, or Lego pieces. Count out piles of exactly 10. How many Tens did you make? How many Ones are left over? What is your total number?
- Task B: Number Detective: Pick a number between 10 and 99. Tell your parent exactly how many Tens and how many Ones are hiding inside that number!
