Day 07: Organelles – The Cell’s Tiny Organs
Middle Stage Science | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences
Just like our body has organs (heart, lungs, stomach) to help us live, a Cell has tiny specialized structures called Organelles. These “little organs” perform specific jobs to keep the cell alive, healthy, and growing!
- Nucleus: The Control Center (The Boss)
- Mitochondria: The Power House (The Generator)
- Ribosomes: Protein Factories (The Assembly Line)
- Vacuoles: Storage Closets (The Warehouse)
| Organelle | Function |
|---|---|
| Cell Wall | Protection (Plants only) |
| Cytoplasm | Jelly-like fluid holding organelles |
Athletes have more Mitochondria in their muscle cells than people who don’t exercise. Why? Because muscles need massive amounts of energy to move!
When you forget to water a plant, it wilts because the Vacuoles (storage tanks) lose water and can no longer keep the cell stiff.
Go to the kitchen with your parents. Find items that represent cell parts (e.g., An egg: Shell = Cell Membrane, White = Cytoplasm, Yolk = Nucleus). Draw your “Kitchen Cell” in your notebook!
Look at a leaf outside. Explain to your parents why it is green (Hint: Mention Chloroplasts and Chlorophyll).
