Day 16: Comparing & Ordering
Preparatory Stage (Grades 3-5) Mathematics | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences
1 Level 1: The Quest (Concept)
Welcome, Math Explorer! Today’s quest is to master the art of Comparing. Imagine you have two pizza slices or two bags of gold—how do you know which one is bigger? We use special signs to show the relationship between numbers:
\( > \) (Greater Than) | \( < \) (Less Than) | \( = \) (Equal To)
Example: \( \frac{1}{2} \) of a cake is bigger than \( \frac{1}{4} \) of the same cake!
| Fractions | Decimals |
|---|---|
| \( \frac{3}{10} < \frac{7}{10} \) | \( 0.5 > 0.05 \) |
2 Level 2: Power-Ups (Tools & Methods)
To compare \( 0.7 \) and \( 0.65 \), add a zero to make them the same length:
\( 0.70 \) vs \( 0.65 \)
Clearly, \( 70 \) is bigger than \( 65 \), so \( 0.7 > 0.65 \)!
3 Level 3: Mini-Boss Battles
Rahul drinks \( 0.4 \) liters of juice, and Sneha drinks \( \frac{1}{2} \) liter. Who drank more? (Hint: \( \frac{1}{2} = 0.5 \))
A car covers \( \frac{3}{4} \) of a track. Another car covers \( \frac{5}{8} \). Which car is closer to the finish line?
4 Level 4: Home Quests
Find two packets of snacks. Look at their weight (e.g., 0.5kg and 250g). Convert them to decimals and tell your parents which one is heavier!
Take 3 identical glasses. Fill one \( \frac{1}{4} \), one \( \frac{1}{2} \), and one \( \frac{3}{4} \). Draw them in your notebook from Shortest to Tallest.
This is very easy teacher 😁
Thank you teacher 😁
IT is so interesting
That is wonderful my mother explanation is always the best and easiest for understand
