Day 2: The Magic of Adding! ➕

Foundation Stage Mathematics | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences

🎯 1. Concept: Bringing Things Together

Welcome back! Yesterday, we learned how to count numbers. Today, we will learn about Addition. Addition simply means bringing things together to see how many we have in total.

We use a special symbol for addition. It looks like a little cross and is called the Plus Sign (+).

💡 2. Let’s Look at Examples

Let’s use our fingers to add!

  • Hold up 1 finger on your left hand. Hold up 1 finger on your right hand. Bring them together. Now you have 2 fingers! (1 + 1 = 2)
  • You have 2 red apples 🍎🍎 and 1 green apple 🍏. Put them in a basket. You have 3 apples in total! (2 + 1 = 3)
  • What if you have 5 toys, and you add 0 (zero) toys? You still have 5 toys! (5 + 0 = 5)

🌍 3. Math in Our Daily Life

We use addition all the time without even knowing it!

Scenario 1: You eat 2 biscuits in the morning. In the evening, your mother gives you 2 more biscuits. By the time you sleep, you have eaten 4 biscuits! (2 + 2 = 4)

Scenario 2: You have 3 pencils in your geometry box. Your best friend gifts you 2 new pencils. Now you have 5 pencils to draw with! (3 + 2 = 5)

📝 4. Home Practice (Fun Tasks)

Parents, please guide your child with these fun addition tasks!

  • Task A: Spoon Addition: Take 3 spoons from the kitchen. Ask your mom for 2 more spoons. Count them all together!
  • Task B: Toy Combine: Make a line of 4 small toys. Add 3 more toys to the line. Touch and count each one to find the total.
  • Task C: Drawing Math: Draw 2 stars ⭐⭐. Next to them, draw 3 more stars ⭐⭐⭐. Write the total number of stars.
