Day 2: The Mighty Seed 🌱

🎯 1. Concept: Seeds are Baby Plants

Every giant tree once started as a tiny Seed. Inside that hard shell is a “baby plant” waiting for the right moment to wake up!

To wake up, a seed needs three things:
  • Water: To soften the hard shell.
  • Air: To breathe.
  • Warmth: Like a cozy blanket from the sun.

When a seed starts to grow, we call it Germination.

πŸ’‘ 2. The “WAW” Check

Want to remember what a seed needs to grow? Remember W-A-W!

  • W – Water
  • A – Air
  • W – Warmth

*A seed does NOT need soil or light to start growing, but it needs them later to stay healthy!

🌍 3. Science in Our Daily Life

Example: Think about the beans or rajma in your kitchen. They are seeds! They stay “asleep” in the dry jar because they don’t have Water or Warmth. Once your mother soaks them in water, they begin to soften and wake up.

πŸ“ 4. Home Experiment: The Ziploc Garden

  • Get a clear plastic bag and a paper towel.
  • Wet the paper towel and put it inside the bag.
  • Drop 2 dry beans (like rajma or moong) onto the wet towel.
  • Tape the bag to a window where it can get Warmth.
  • Observation: In a few days, you will see a tiny white root come out. That is Germination!

βœ… 5. Day 2 Practice Test

Are you a Seed Expert? Answer these 10 questions to find out!

Easy
1. What is inside every seed?
Solution: A seed is a protective home for a baby plant!
Easy
2. Which of these does a seed need to wake up?
Solution: Water is the first thing a seed needs to soften its shell.
Easy
3. What is the science word for a seed starting to grow?
Solution: Germination means the “waking up” and growing process.
Easy
4. Seeds need warmth from the ______.
Solution: Warmth from the sun helps the seed grow.
Medium
5. In the “WAW” check, what does the letter ‘A’ stand for?
Solution: Seeds are living and need Air to breathe!
Medium
6. True or False: A seed needs light to START growing.
Solution: Seeds can germinate in the dark (like under the soil)! They only need light once they have leaves.
Medium
7. Why do seeds stay asleep in a dry packet?
Solution: Without water, the germination process cannot start.
Medium
8. In your experiment, what part of the plant comes out of the seed first?
Solution: The root always comes out first to find water!
Hard
9. If you put a seed in the freezer with water and air, will it grow?
Solution: A seed needs all three (Water, Air, and Warmth) to grow.
Hard
10. What is the main job of the hard shell of a seed?
Solution: The shell is like armor for the baby plant until it is ready to grow.
