Day 1: Living and Non-Living Things 🌱

Foundation Stage | Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences

🎯 1. Concept: Two Worlds

Look around you! Everything we see can be sorted into two groups. We call them Living Things and Non-Living Things.

Living Things: They need food, they breathe air, and they grow bigger!

Non-Living Things: They do not eat, they do not breathe, and they stay the same size.

πŸ’‘ 2. The “3-Check” Rule

To find out if something is alive, ask these 3 questions:

  • Does it Drink water?
  • Does it Grow?
  • Does it Move by itself?

*If all are YES, it’s a living thing!

🌍 3. Science in Our Daily Life

Example 1: A mango tree in your garden is a Living Thing. It was once a tiny seed, but it grew tall because it drank water and breathed air.

Example 2: Your school bag is a Non-Living Thing. It will never grow into a bigger bag, even if you feed it!

πŸ“ 4. Home Practice (Fun Tasks)

  • Task A: The Living Hunt: Find one thing in your kitchen that is living (like an onion or potato) and one thing that is not (like a spoon). Explain why to your parents!
  • Task B: Drawing Time: Draw a picture of your favorite animal and your favorite toy. Circle the one that needs to eat food.
