Day 15: Tick-Tock Time | Foundation Stage Mathematics
Apex Institute of Maths and Sciences
Imagine a world where we didn’t know when to eat lunch or go to sleep! That’s why we have clocks. A clock is a special tool that tells us the story of time using numbers and hands.
The Clock Face
Small Hand: The Hour Hand (Short and slow – it tells the hour).
Big Hand: The Minute Hand (Long and fast – it tells the minutes).
π When the big hand points to 12, it’s an “o’clock” hour!
| Position of Big Hand | What we say |
|---|---|
| Points at 12 | O’Clock (Example: 4:00) |
| Points at 6 | Half-past (Example: 4:30) |
If your school bus arrives when the small hand is on 8 and the big hand is on 12, what time is it?
Answer: It’s 8 o’clock!
You get a break when the small hand is between 10 and 11, and the big hand is pointing exactly at 6.
Answer: It’s Half-past 10 (10:30)!
Stand in the living room. Use your short arm to be the hour hand and your long arm to be the minute hand. Ask your parent to shout a time (like 3 o’clock) and show it with your arms!
Find 3 different clocks in your house (Phone, Wall Clock, Microwave). Draw the face of the one you like most and show “Half-past 6” on it.
1. Which hand on the clock moves the slowest?

7. If the time is 9:30, where is the big hand?
8. At 12:00 o’clock, where are the two hands?
