🎯 1. Concept: Jumping Over Numbers

Welcome to Day 9! Have you ever wanted to count things really, really fast? That’s where Skip Counting comes in to save the day!

Instead of counting one by one (1, 2, 3, 4…), we act like kangaroos and jump over numbers! We can count by 2s, 5s, or 10s.

💡 2. The Skipping Rules

There are special patterns when we skip count:

  • Counting by 2s: You only say even numbers! (2, 4, 6, 8, 10…). They always end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.
  • Counting by 5s: High five! The numbers always end in a 5 or a 0. (5, 10, 15, 20…).
  • Counting by 10s: The fastest way! These numbers ALWAYS end in a 0. (10, 20, 30, 40…).

🌍 3. Math in Our Daily Life

We skip count all the time without even realizing it!

Scenario 1: Counting Shoes. Shoes always come in pairs (2s). If you see 4 pairs of shoes at the front door, you don’t count them one by one. You count: 2, 4, 6, 8! There are 8 shoes total.

Scenario 2: The Coin Collector. If you have a pile of ₹5 coins, you can count your money super fast by skip counting by 5s: “5, 10, 15, 20 rupees!”

📝 4. Home Practice (Fun Tasks)

Parents, please guide your child with these fun counting games!

  • Task A: The Shoe Detective: Go to where your family keeps their shoes. Count all the shoes by 2s. How many individual shoes are there?
  • Task B: High-Five Family: Ask everyone in your house to hold up their hands. Count all the fingers in the room by jumping by 5s! (5, 10, 15, 20…).

Solution: Jump 2 spots after 6: 7… 8! The answer is 8.

Solution: Jump 5 spots after 15, and the pattern ends in 0. The answer is 20!

3. Fill in the blank counting by 10s: 10, 20, 30, ____?
Solution: Look at the first numbers: 1, 2, 3… next is 4! So the answer is 40.

4. You see 3 pairs of socks on the floor. Count them by 2s. How many socks are there in total?
Solution: Count by 2s three times: 2, 4, 6! There are 6 socks.

5. What number comes next: 8, 10, 12, ____?
Solution: We are counting by 2s. 12 + 2 = 14.

Solution: We are counting by 5s. 35 + 5 = 40. Remember, it must end in a 0 or 5!

Solution: The number 12 does not end in a 0 or a 5, so it is an impostor!

9. Let’s try counting BACKWARDS by 2s! Fill in the blank: 10, 8, 6, ____?
Solution: We are taking away 2 each time. 6 minus 2 is 4!

10. Brain Teaser: You, your Mom, and your Dad all put your hands in the middle. That’s 6 hands! Count the fingers by 5s to find the total.
Solution: Count by 5s six times: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30! There are 30 fingers.
