🎯 1. Concept: The Three Subatomic Particles

Everything is made of Atoms. An atom has a center called the Nucleus and outer paths called Shells (or Orbits). There are three main particles:

  • Protons: Positively charged particles inside the Nucleus. The number of protons is the Atomic Number.
  • Neutrons: Particles with NO charge (Neutral) inside the Nucleus.
  • Electrons: Negatively charged particles that orbit outside the Nucleus in shells.

*Rule: In a neutral atom, the number of Protons and Electrons are always EQUAL.

💡 2. Atomic Mass and Neutrons

The Mass Number is the total count of Protons and Neutrons added together. We use this to find missing information:

Neutrons = Mass Number – Protons

Isotopes: These are atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons.

🌍 3. Science in Our Daily Life

Radiation Shielding: Dense atoms like Lead are used to block X-rays because their nuclei contain many protons and neutrons.

Carbon Dating: Scientists use a specific Isotope of Carbon (Carbon-14) to find the age of ancient fossils and wood.

Task: Study the element Helium. It has an Atomic Number of 2 and a Mass Number of 4. Calculate its neutrons and draw the nucleus.
